ETI Corporation was the lead design consultant for the planning and design of the 8,000-seat Tournament Soccer Stadium at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Shelby County, Tennessee. The stadium is the final field developed in this stateoftheart seventeen field, lighted soccer complex, which provides a competitive tournament setting for soccer teams from throughout the southeast United States. All fields in the complex are lighted and irrigated. The fields have under drains which combined with the 'turtle-back' crowned grades provides a nearly even playing surface from goal to goal that is playable within hours instead of days after a heavy downpour from a summer thunderstorm. The Tournament Soccer Stadium is sited in a depressed 'bowl' area allowing for the bleachers to sit on-grade without an extensive support structure. This allows for a raised sponsor's box area to be included in a glassed in concession building that overlooks the playing field from the south end zone. Locker rooms, restroom buildings, and additional concession areas are also built into the stadium structure, and provide a barrier between the bleachers and the adjacent paved parking lots. Special detailing was provided for the playing field surface that helps minimize maintenance and damage to the turf during tournament play. This included laser aided grading that created a flat playing surface and specific soil and aggregate gradation for the field construction. Installation of a subsurface drain tile system to very high tolerances and installation of hybrid Bermuda sod created specifically for heavy-duty field use.
